About Programme

The Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at Bursa Technical University offers a comprehensive four-year engineering program that blends theoretical knowledge with practical experience. In the first year, students receive intensive instruction in disciplines such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and basic engineering sciences. In subsequent years, courses focus on ship construction, ship design, marine machinery, shipyard management, and construction materials, preparing students both theoretically and practically for the maritime sector. During their undergraduate education, students benefit from compulsory courses as well as a wide range of elective courses tailored to industry priorities and individual interests, allowing them to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to distinguish themselves in their careers. The curriculum is structured to meet the graduation credit requirements and is designed in accordance with the National Qualifications Framework for Higher Education in Turkey (TYYÇ). To support theoretical education, the program includes one mandatory summer internship and the distinctive Vocational Training Programme (İMEP) specific to Bursa Technical University. As part of İMEP, students actively work during the eighth semester in industrial enterprises in the Bursa region or in shipyards, workshops, design offices, and R&D firms in the Istanbul-Yalova shipyard regions. This hands-on experience equips them with practical skills and prepares them for their professional careers.

A distinguishing feature of the department is the integration of theoretical courses with practical knowledge provided by experienced academics who have worked extensively in the shipbuilding industry. This ensures that students are equipped with problem-solving skills to address real-world challenges. Graduates of the program have access to a wide range of career opportunities. They can work in shipyards, yacht and ship design offices, marine and yacht subcontractor companies, shipping companies (shipowners), insurance companies, classification societies (surveys and certification), public and private institutions related to the maritime sector, and defense industry organizations. Additionally, they are well-prepared to lead innovative projects in R&D departments, contributing significantly to the industry.
