About Programme

Mechanical engineering is an engineering field that includes activities related to the design, analysis, and production of mechanical systems. In design and analysis, a mathematical model is developed using the basic principles of mechanics. In manufacturing, activities are carried out to achieve the most appropriate production speed by using the latest technologies in electronics and computers. Due to its wide scope, most of the time, when mechanical engineering is mentioned, a single concept does not come to mind. For example, heat and installation engineering, construction and manufacturing engineering, automotive engineering are engineering branches that always rely on mechanical engineering infrastructure. In addition to having these basic sub-fields, it is an engineering field that also constitutes an infrastructure for interdisciplinary research subjects such as biomechanics and mechatronics. Due to this wide area of influence, mechanical engineering has been a branch of engineering, whose education is given great importance worldwide.

Our program, according to educational objectives, enables our graduates to:

1. Conduct engineering and research development activities in national and international organizations in the field of mechanical engineering.

2. They are entrepreneurial mechanical engineers who can solve complex engineering problems, inclined towards teamwork, possess high oral and written communication skills, and prioritize environmental, social, and ethical values.

3. They can participate in graduate programs in domestic and international universities and conduct scientific research.

4. They are mechanical engineers who can develop themselves professionally and academically throughout their lives with the principle of lifelong learning."

The subjects of mechanical engineering can be grouped under the following main headings:

Mechanics (Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Computational Mechanics, Biomechanics, Dynamics, Acoustics)
Design and Manufacturing (Optimum Product Design, Process Design, Prototyping, Innovation, Improvement)
Control and Robotics (Automation Systems, Mechatronics)
Energy (Power Plants, Energy Conversion Systems, Solar Energy Systems)
Micro-Nano Engineering (Micro Electromechanical System Design, Biomimics, Quantum Computing and Simulations)
Vehicle Design and Development
Computer Aided Design Analysis and Optimization

History
Mechanical Engineering Department at the Bursa Technical University started undergraduate education under the faculty of natural sciences, architecture and engineering by Fall 2011. Students need to finish a mandatory English preparation program in the first year. 30% of the mechanical engineering classes are thought in English. With a highly experienced staff (currently, 3 full professors, 1 associate professors, 7 assistant professors, 1 Lecturer and 11 research assistants), mechanical engineering department not only serves to the BTU toward the vision of being one of the leading research universities but also graduates talented mechanical engineers who can contribute to the Industry.
Qualification Awarded
This department is subject to first stage degree system with 240 ECTS credits in mechanical engineering. Upon successful completion of program provided that program qualifications are met, an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering area can be earned.
Admission Requirements
Mechanical Engineering Department admits the students with a central exam administered by the National Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). The number of students accepted to the program was 55 in the 2016-2017 academic year. Additionally, transfer students are admitted by a number approved by the Department Administrative Board and the Higher Education Council (YÖK).
Higher Grade Transition
Candidates with an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering can be admitted to the graduate program if they get a valid score from Entrance Examination for Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education (ALES), and foreign languages exam (or equivalent exams such as Toefl and Ielts).
Graduation Requirements
To complete the program, students need to pass all of the courses in cirriculum of the program (with 240 ECTS credits) with GPA at least 2.00.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
